Compare Hario V60 dripper sizes 01, 02, and 03 to find the right fit for your brew. Learn which size suits single-serve or larger batches.
Quick answer
Choose a V60 01 for a single cup, the 02 for 1-4 cups, and the 03 for up to 6 cups. The 01 is the most compact and affordable, while the 03 offers the largest capacity for batch brewing.
Size by the numbers
Hario V60 drippers come in three sizes: 01, 02, and 03. The number refers to the capacity, not the cone angle or brew quality. All sizes use the same 60-degree conical shape and spiral ridges, so your pour-over technique transfers directly between them. The key difference is how many cups you can brew at once.
The 01 size is designed for a single cup (1-2 Japanese cups). It's the most compact and often the most affordable option. The 02 size handles 1-4 cups, making it the most versatile for home use. The 03 size goes up to 6 cups, ideal for entertaining or meal-prep brewing.
The ceramic models (like the V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper 01 - Classic Colors and the V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper 02 "Coffee Grounds") are handcrafted from Arita-yaki porcelain. The plastic versions (like the V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper - New Colors and the V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper 03) are lighter, more durable, and often lower in price.
Material matters
Beyond size, the material affects heat retention and price. Ceramic drippers retain heat well, which can help maintain a stable brew temperature. Plastic drippers are lighter and less prone to breakage, making them a practical choice for travel or everyday use. The ceramic models are handmade, adding a unique character to each dripper.
The V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper 03 is a great choice if you need a large capacity but want a lightweight, shatterproof option. The V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper 02 "Coffee Grounds" combines ceramic with coffee grounds for a bespoke look, but it comes at a higher price point.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Size 01: Compact single-serve: Best for one cup. The smallest and most affordable dripper. Plastic version is very portable. Ceramic version is handmade and heat-retentive. Choose 01 if you brew one cup at a time and value portability or budget.
- Size 02: The versatile middle ground: Handles 1-4 cups. Available in ceramic (including the unique coffee-ground finish) and plastic. The most popular size for home brewers. Choose 02 if you brew for yourself and occasionally for a guest.
- Size 03: Large batch brewing: Up to 6 cups. Plastic model is lightweight and shatterproof. Best for entertaining or making multiple cups at once. Choose 03 if you regularly brew for a group or want to prep coffee for the day.
